Officials in Pakistan are lifting a ban on kite flying in preparation for a spring festival that is marked by the flying of colorful kites. The ban was put in place last year not because Pakistani officials hate whimsy, but because of too many kite-related FATALITIES!

Last year seven people were fatally wounded by metal or glass-reinforced kite strings used to support extra-large kites. I know the question this raises for me is how one makes something like a string stronger by involving GLASS. The deadly strings will be outlawed, as will kites larger than 2 square feet, and authorities will issue licenses for selling both kites and strings.
