New 'Democratic Iraq' shuts down independent newspaper Posted by Pile (4771 views) [E-Mail link] [Terroir-ism] The new Iraqi government, citing "National Security" concerns, has closed down the Baghdad office of the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera television network. They say the network's news stories, focusing on crime and terrorist acts are hurting the country's efforts to rebuild. I'm not sure how you get off on the right hoof in creating a better society when you shut down the main independent media in the nation.
