Another day, another sex scandal involving a god-fearing republican who just happened to be a key supporter of John McCain. That and the fact that this legislator had also co-sponsored bills on public sex is pretty much par for the course with these guys. State Rep. Bob Allen, a co-chair of Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s Florida campaign, is expected to address Thursday charges that he offered to perform oral sex on an undercover male police officer for $20 in a bathroom in a public park. Oh yea, this is also the guy who authored a bill criminalizing public sex acts.

A Republican state lawmaker charged with offering to perform oral sex for $20 on an undercover male police officer vowed Thursday to defend himself in court and said he would not resign from office.

"I am filing a not guilty plea. I am vigorously going to fight this," State Rep. Bob Allen, a co-chair of Republican presidential candidate John McCain's campaign in Florida, said at a news conference. "I am not resigning my office because the people elected me and want me to do a good job. I am going to do a good job for them in finishing this term."

Allen called his arrest "an ugly and unpleasant situation that has been thrust on me and my family." The lawmaker had sponsored a failed bill that would have tightened the state's prohibition on public sex.

He choked up when he thanked backers who had contacted him to offer their support. He warned people not to jump to conclusions about what happened but said he could not offer any details about the arrest because of his legal strategy. Allen is married and has a teenage daughter.

RE: Self righteous republicans

This is the letter I sent to Time Magazine in response to the article "How Democrats Got Religion. I also included the response I received. This pretty much describes all of them in both parties who preach to the rest of us as to how we should live because they all consider themselves to be the paragons of virtue they claim to be.

> All the people out there who vote for a person because of their so-called religious leanings are way out of touch with reality. The republicans have been touting their religious "beliefs" and "morals" for so long, some, too many, actually believe it. In no way does saying one is religious mean that person has any MORALS. There are so many examples of this out there it is impossible to count them. But a few glaring examples come to mind. How about Newt. He was so infatuated with a girlfriend that he took her along to his wife's hospital room to inform the wife he was divorcing her. Then, even as he was railing against that horrible sinner, Bill Clinton, Newt was having his own affair with another girlfriend while his wife sat home. Guilianni, who moved his girlfriend, now his trophy wife, into the mayor's mansion while his wife was still there in order to force her out of the house sooner. Bill Clinton himself who "had sex with that woman" right under Hillary's nose with a tramp who went to the White House with all intentions of seducing the president after bragging to her friends that she was "taking my presidential knee pads" along. What about Tom Delay? He's a worse gangster than Al Capone. Jefferson? who had all that money hidden in his freezer. And what about Bush and Cheney? Lies upon lies upon lies. Treason, Obstruction of justice, torture, illegal wire taps. And on and on it goes. Those who most profess to be religious, those self righteous hypocrites, are the least moral of anyone else in the country. And I, for one, am really sick and tired of being preached at by people who think they are better than I am, not for religious reasons, but simply because I don't have as much money as they do. I personally think it is immoral to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on balloons to pop at their respective conventions rather than spend the money on health care for the poor. I think it's immoral for someone in Social Security to ask someone "Why IN THE WORLD would you EVEN GO TO THE HOSPITAL in the FIRST PLACE, when you KNEW you COULDN'T PAY FOR IT?" I think it's immoral for the Captain's wife at Salvation Army to ask someone, "What makes you think that you HAVE THE RIGHT to apply for disability?", when that person is there asking for help to get life-saving prescriptions. I think it's immoral to let corporations pay their CEOs millions of dollars in bonuses while cutting health coverage for the people who really do the work. I could go on and on, but let me end with this, I think it is immoral for the people who are supposed to be running this country to continue to allow corporations to ship all the good jobs overseas to up their profit or give them to illegal aliens, while putting Americans out of work and not caring one whit what's going to happen when there are no jobs left for future generations, and all the food comes from countries who have NO regulations and all the land here is bought up by corporate farms where more and more acreage lies dormant due to being paid NOT to plant crops so as to keep prices high.
