Posted by ueberbill (5863 views) [E-Mail link] The House of Representatives, ever enamored with boomsticks, rushed the passage of a new bill intended to make it harder for the government to deny gun licenses AND harder for the ATF to punish gun dealers who violate gun laws. Meanwhile 10 of the 12 appropriations bills needed to FUND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT were deemed unimportant by the guest panel of NRA executives and didn't make it to the floor. The bill, legislative priority numero uno for the NRA (which drafted it), was considered under a suspension of rules in which debate lasts only 40 minutes and amendments are verboten. Most House Republicans supported the bill (natch) and 63 Democrats followed suit to give the bill the 2/3 majority it needed to pass. The Senate has not yet taken up the measure.
