European Journalists Reserve "Right of Blasphemy"

Ok, this is a great story, and it shows how much balls the Europeans have when it comes to freedom of speech and journalism. What's happened is that a Danish newspaper published a characature of Mohammed, the Muslim prophet. Well, Muslims all over the world were outraged and Danish reporters have had to go into hiding over death threats; countries like Saudi Arabia and others are initiating elaborate boycotts of anything and everything Danish as a result of the newspaper's action. Apparently, reproducing any imagine of Mohammed is some sort of grave sin.

However in protest of the Muslim upheval against Denmark, newspapers across Europe have shown the balls that are now non-existent in Western journalism to publish charactures of a variety of religious figures including Mohammed. Where's the American media in all of this? Probably checking with Federal Express, the CATO institute, and Chase Bank to find out what they should print.

Germany's Die Welt daily printed one of the drawings on its front page, arguing that a "right to blasphemy" was anchored in democratic freedoms.

When President Bush visited New Orleans for the first time in 3 months, he was greeted by a group of Catholic schoolgirls demanding Category 5 levee protection and coastal restoration. The girls wore life jackets and swim masks over their school uniforms, and carried signs that demanded the right to feel safe in their homes.

I Can Ignore Torture Law, says Bush

When President Bush last week signed the bill outlawing the torture of detainees, he quietly reserved the right to bypass the law under his powers as commander in chief.

After approving the bill last Friday, Bush issued a "signing statement"--an official document in which a president lays out his interpretation of a new law--declaring that he will view the interrogation limits in the context of his broader powers to protect national security. This means Bush believes he can waive the restrictions, the White House and legal specialists said.

Oh, sure, pass your little anti-torture bill. I'm president[king/emperor for life/supreme leader], so it doesn't apply to me. Yes, I'm sure that's what the system of checks and balances written into the Constitution meant.

While American media railed against the horrors of Saddam Hussein using chemical weapons against Iran as justification for Iraq's invasion, the little known fact that the Unites States executed similarly henious acts is now starting to surface.

Powerful new evidence emerged yesterday that the United States dropped massive quantities of white phosphorus on the Iraqi city of Fallujah during the attack on the city in November 2004, killing insurgents and civilians with the appalling burns that are the signature of this weapon.

Media Ignores More Black Friday Revelations

Like much news that's damaging to the Bush administration, the report came out on a Friday.

Since then, it's gotten little media attention -- just 41 mentions in U.S. newspapers and wire stories, according to a news database search on October 11. That's remarkably sparse coverage for a story showing that the U.S. government has been engaged in illegal propaganda aimed at its own citizens.

CBS Decides Its Viewers "Can't Handle The [PHONY] Truth."

CBS/Infinity Radio has refused to air paid commercial announcements for an upcoming non-partisan symposium on terrorism, claiming "people might be too emotionally affected" by it.

"CBS/Infinity Radio joins Sinclair Broadcasting in refusing to air fact-based content about issues important to the country," said David Masak, the media production director for Peoples Truth Forum's symposium. "The facts of the threat we face might be disturbing, but that's the truth of the matter. Why CBS/Infinity wouldn't want to take this opportunity to share the facts with the American people, especially in light of the recent bombings in London, says a lot about CBS."

Or maybe is says more about the People's Truth Forum?

I don't know about you, but this set my BS Detector off, and I suspect CBS told the group to shove it when they found out the president of the People's Truth Forum was also the guy behind the bogus, muck-raking media bile, "Vietnam Vets For Truth" which was a wannabe "Swift Boat Veterans For Truth" PAC which manufactured a plethora of lies during the last presidential campaign, including allegations comparing Kerry to Nazi collaborators and the erroneous claim Kerry is considered a Communist hero to the North Vietnamese and helped them achieve victory.
