Pastor John Hagee writes in his book, "Jerusalem Countdown: A Prelude To war" that Jews brought the Holocaust upon themselves by rebelling against God and that the Holocaust was God's way of forcing Jews to move to Israel where, Hagee predicts according to his interpretation of Biblical scripture, they will be mostly killed in the apocalyptic Mideast conflict Hagee's new lobbying group seems to be working to provoke and which John Hagee believes to be a necessary precondition for the "Rapture" that will lift Christians, but not Jews, bodily into Heaven to enjoy physical immortality in paradise.

[Hippies]
On Monday, March 12, the Secular Coalition for America will make history by announcing the name of the first openly nontheistic member of Congress.

Elected officials who do not hold a god-belief are a rarity and only a few nontheist politicians have been open about their beliefs. Perhaps the best-known was Robert G. Ingersoll, called the Great Agnostic. He was a famous orator and gave the nomination speech at the 1884 Republican Presidential Convention for James G. Blaine. Influential Illinois Republicans wanted Ingersoll to run for Governor, but on the condition that he conceal his agnosticism. Ingersoll refused, and he never held elected office.

The Irish Catholic Bishops Conference (motto: "Ain't No Party Like An Irish Catholic Bishops' Party") has some pretty wacky ideas. No I'm not talking about masturbation as a mortal sin. Nor am I talking about the concept of transubstantiation. I'm not even talking about the idea that a man believed his fiancee when she told him she was pregnant NOT with his baby NOR with another villager's baby but in fact with the child of a loving (and horny) God. This is much wackier.

Life Decisions International (LDI), a Washington DC-based group that has attempted to organize boycotts against companies that contribute to Planned Parenthood, has lashed out at the broadcast networks for allowing "programming that blatantly mocks Christianity." The group wasted no time denouncing Wednesday night/Thursday morning's episode of Late Night With Conan O'Brien, in which the host introduced a new character, "the homophobic country-western singer"... oh yea, you have to hear these lyrics...

The web site says, After Jesus comes, we will make sure your pet is cared for. We are making arrangements with heathen pet food companies, heathen kennels, and heathen pet caretakers around the world to establish a realiable network of pet-caring heathens that will survive the apocalypse with your pet.

That's one less heavy load from my mind.

Evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson said Tuesday that God has told him that a terrorist attack on the United States would cause a "mass killing" late in 2007.

"I'm not necessarily saying it's going to be nuclear," he said during his news-and-talk television show "The 700 Club" on the Christian Broadcasting Network.

"The Lord didn't say nuclear. But I do believe it will be something like that."

Robertson said God told him about the impending tragedy during a recent prayer retreat.

The Christianists And The Christian Embassy

A military watchdog group is asking the Defense Department to investigate whether seven Army and Air Force officers violated regulations by appearing in uniform in a promotional video for an evangelical Christian organization. In the video, much of which was filmed inside the Pentagon, four generals and three colonels praise the Christian Embassy, a group that evangelizes among military leaders, politicians, and diplomats in Washington. These "Military Christianists" use their uniforms to proselytize, and swear an oath of loyalty, putting loyalty to country third behind God and family.

Some groups are very concerned about whether or not our military leaders can now be trusted to honor their oath of allegiance to the Constitution, which is in direct opposition with the objective of the Christian Embassy and their membership in this "cult."

"We have a systemic problem. You sound like you're too young to remember Robert Redford in "Three Days of the Condor," but the premise of that movie was that there was a CIA within the CIA. We have a virulently dominionist, fundamentalist evangelical Christian element within the Pentagon. They would prefer this to be the "Pentecostalgon," not the Pentagon. That's what they would prefer. They're trying to turn the Pentagon into a frickin' faith-based initiative, and that is not what our military is about."

In the "is there something in the air out there" department, yet another evangelical preacher and church founder in Colorado, this one in the Denver area, has been forced to reveal his long-hidden homosexuality. Rev. Paul Barnes of Grace Chapel confessed to his congregation by video last Sunday that he'd known he was gay since the age of 5, but had managed to keep it (mostly) under wraps for the almost 50 years since then. His wife and two grown children were surprised, too.

Forget third-world country, let's go for a fourth-world country. Some boneheads in corporate America have created this initiative called the "Liberty Amendment," which proposes to ensure the government doesn't compete with any private business interest--and they call that "liberty." This amendment is currently being considered in Congress, and if it actually passes, you should be able to sit by and watch your entire society degenerate into a Mad-Max style fourth world controlled exclusively by a few select corporations.

Seven people shuffled forward Wednesday to serve the city of Minneapolis and Hennepin County with a lawsuit for violating their rights, abusing them, and discriminating against them.

In late July, the "zombies" — six young adults and a juvenile in heavy ghoulish makeup — were arrested for "simulating weapons of mass destruction," a post-Sept. 11 felony, during a dance party near Minneapolis' entertainment district.

Minneapolis-based attorney Jordan Kushner, representing the zombies, said his clients were mostly dancing to music but may have occasionally uttered a political statement.

United States Gov Web Site Shows How To Build Atomic Weapons

Last March, the federal government set up a Web site to make public a vast archive of Iraqi documents captured during the war. The Bush administration did so under pressure from Congressional Republicans who had said they hoped to “leverage the Internet” to find new evidence of the prewar dangers posed by Saddam Hussein.

But in recent weeks, the site has posted some documents that weapons experts say are a danger themselves: detailed accounts of Iraq’s secret nuclear research before the 1991 Persian Gulf war. The documents, the experts say, constitute a basic guide to building an atom bomb.

The beauty of this is that many of the documents were already in Arabic. Isn't that convenient. Thanks George! I feel safer already!

Major Christian Leader, Ted Haggard Caught In Gay Scandal

Rev. Ted Haggard, married father of five, resigned as president of the 30 million-member National Association of Evangelicals on Thursday after being accused of paying a man for sex in monthly trysts over the past three years.

Haggard — an outspoken opponent of the drive for gay marriage — also stepped down as senior pastor at his 14,000-member New Life Church pending an investigation by a church panel, saying he could “not continue to minister under the cloud created by the accusations.”

Male escort Mike Jones, whose allegations were first aired on KHOW-AM radio in Denver, claimed Haggard paid him to have sex nearly every month over three years. Jones also said Haggard snorted methamphetamine before their sexual encounters to heighten his experience.

..Well, isn't that special...

Update:
The Overseer Board of New Life Church, have concluded deliberations concerning the moral failings of Pastor Ted Haggard: "Our investigation and Pastor Haggard's public statements have proven without a doubt that he has committed sexually immoral conduct."

Santorum Compares Iraq to Minas Tirith

[Military]
In a recent interview, U.S. Senator and enricher of slang dictionaries everywhere Rick Santorum compared Iraq's role in the world terror situation to a subtle relationship in J.R.R. Tolkein's epic fantasy saga of good battling evil, The Lord of the Rings.

"As the hobbits are going up Mount Doom, the Eye of Mordor is being drawn somewhere else," Santorum said, describing the tool the evil Lord Sauron used in search of the magical ring that would consolidate his power over Middle-earth.

"It's being drawn to Iraq and it's not being drawn to the U.S.," Santorum continued. "You know what? I want to keep it on Iraq. I don't want the Eye to come back here to the United States."

Santorum failed to mention the huge battle that resulted when the Eye of Sauron was drawn to Minas Tirith, the near-destruction of that city, or the thousands of deaths that resulted. Nonetheless, we'd get behind any plan he might have to send President Bush off to Mordor to retrieve his Precioussssss oil. And who's Frodo in this analogy? Whitney Houston, the Dark Queen who destroys the power of the evil Sauron-bin-Laden?
